What Is The Difference Between A Trim And A Restyle
August 18, 2024If you're getting ready to book your next hair appointment and don't know what to book... you have come to the right place! There is often a lot of confusion around the different types of haircut services available at a salon. Clients and stylists alike want and need a better explanation! We got you !
Should I Get a Trim?
If you are trying to maintain the length of your hair or even grow it longer, a trim is the best haircut service for you. Trimming hair helps to remove dead, split ends and keep hair healthy and strong. Getting your hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks will keep it in the best shape possible.
A trim involves just cutting off the dead ends. Usually taking no more than an inch off is classified as a trim. A simple trim can be cut dry to just dust the ends of the hair or a wet hair cut.. A trim does not involve adding layers or creating a different style. Some stylists may also add a little bit of texture and remove some weight to soften any hard lines. Often a trim is a quicker haircut service as some hairdressers may not have your hair washed first or a blow dry and style after. This will also be reflected in the price.
What about a regular haircut?
Some hair salons do not have the option to book for a trim separately. You may come across just the option for a hair cut or restyle. So what is included in a regular haircut?
A regular haircut usually includes cuts like a trim. It will also include a hair style that may require some change. Maybe you want to add long layers, or take off 3 inches and add face framing layers. Often this service will be booked with a hair wash and blow dry.
While adding layers to a haircut may seem like a fresh, new hair cut to you it is still not considered restyle. However, like a restyle cut it will require a consultation with your experienced stylist. Often if we have let our hair grow out we can just ask our stylist to do the same as last time! This is the great part about using the same hairdresser every time !
Ok so what is a restyle? And do I need one ?
Are you thinking it may be time for a change? What about a really drastic change? This is where the restyle comes in. A restyle requires a long consultation, hair wash, cut and style. If you have long hair and want to try a short hair bob, this is the service for you !
A re style will not cost the same as a regular trim or hair cut. It will also involve a very extensive consultation and most likely a senior stylist. You really want to ensure you and your stylist are on the same page before completely changing your hairstyle, and your overall look! One of the secrets to making sure you and your hairstylist are on the same page... PICTURES! Do not be afraid to find a picture of what you want your hair to look like. We promise your hairstylist will not find this annoying, in fact it will help us to make sure we get your new look exactly how you want it!. Of course you may need to be flexible. Not every hair cut is suited to every person! And an experienced hairstylist will be able to explain this to you and help you find the right look.
It is not the same price because you are paying for more time and way more experience! Often a restyle will involve a big hair cut on wet hair followed by a blow dry and then a dry cut to guarantee your restyle looks the best!
If you're unsure of what service to book....
always ask your hairdresser! They are there to help you decide which hair cut and service will suit you best. And while we are talking big change.... you may even decide you need a new colour to go with your new cut ! We say go for it ! Change can be so fun and exciting. We can't wait to see what new style you choose !
